Best Beaches In Lemnos (Limnos)

Gomati Beach In Lemnos

Gomati is a no-frills kind of place. You’ll find some of the best in Lemnos here: a stretch of golden sand and an environment that has been left to be. It is hard not to put it at the top of my list for a day out.

What to do:
Get out on the water with some windsurfing, make your way over the dunes or have a picnic.

The fine print:
There are only so many facilities to be had. The upside is the seclusion and how well-suited it is for windsurfing. The downside? You will need to come with your own supplies.

Thanos Beach In Lemnos

Thanos Beach is well-regarded for the way it puts on a show of natural beauty, with its dunes and the kind of water you can see right to the bottom. I’d put it in at number two on my list of must-see spots in Lemnos.

It is a good place to be had some quiet time, go for a walk or get in for a bit of snorkeling. There are sunbeds and umbrellas to be found, as well as a tavern or two in the area.

The upside is the calm and how fine it is for a dip with a mask. The downside, if there is one, is that it is a bit out of the way and you won’t find as many conveniences here.

Havouli or Chavouli Beach In Lemnos

Havouli Beach is the place to be for a bit of calm, with its fine sand and unspoiled waters.

What you can do:
Take a dip in the water, put on some gear for a bit of snorkeling, or simply unwind.

On hand:
There are sunbeds and umbrellas to be had, as well as a few restaurants in the vicinity.

The good:
It’s hard to beat the clarity of the sea and the quiet.

The not-so-good:
Don’t expect anything but the essentials when it comes to facilities.

Keros Beach in Lemnos

Keros Beach is the place to be for any windsurfer or kitesurfer, with a wide-open coast to match. There is no shortage of things to do: from the water sports on offer to the local schools and the occasional competition.

As for what’s on hand, one will find everything from equipment hire and surf shops to a few good cafes. It is as well-provisioned as it gets for a water sports enthusiast. The only caveat is the wind; it can be a factor and tends to draw in a certain type of person.

Fanaraki Beach [Small (Mikro Fanaraki in Greek) & Large (Megalo Fanaraki in Greek)]

What you have here is a pair of neighboring beaches, defined by their clear water and the rocks that line the shore.

There is plenty to do: take a dip in the sea, put on some gear for some snorkeling, or make your way into the nearby caves. As for what’s on hand, there are beach bars, as well as sunbeds and umbrellas. Parking is available.

On the plus side, the varied landscape makes for an ideal spot to get out and explore. The only caveat is the rock work; it can be a bit much for some.

Myrina Beach In Lemnos island

Myrina Beach, not far from the capital of Myrina, is a lively place where you will find an equal mix of visitors and those in the know.

There is no shortage of things to do: one can be seen swimming, playing some beach volleyball, or out on the water with a paddleboard or kayak. For after the day’s exertions, there are plenty of options in the way of restaurants, bars and places to stay, as well as all the usual trappings like sunbeds, umbrellas and showers.

It is hard to beat the convenience of the location and the fact that it has something for the whole family. The only downside is that in the height of the season, it does tend to fill up.

Plati Beach in Limnos

Plati Beach is a spot with some of the finest sand and water in the area, set in a backdrop of verdant foliage.

What to do: There is plenty of room for a swim or to put in some time on the sun, as well as for a game or two on the shore. Paddleboarding is also an option.

Evgatis Beach is a no-fuss, family-oriented spot with plenty of sand and water that is easy to wade in. It is well equipped for a day out: there are sunbeds and umbrellas to be had, as well as some cafes and showers on hand. You can put in some time with a swim or a game, or have a picnic. The upside is the safety it offers for kids and the quality of the facilities; the only drawback is that it tends to draw in a lot of other families.

Avlonas Beach

There is parking, but don’t expect much in the way of on-site conveniences. The appeal is in the unspoiled scenery and the quiet. The one thing to be aware of is that there are no services to be had, so come with what you need.

Louri Beach

Tips Before Going To The Beaches In Lemnos

When to Go

If you are planning a trip to Lemnos, the summer is hard to beat. Between June and September you will find warm, beach-friendly weather. For a more relaxed pace with milder temperatures and without the hordes of people, the shoulder months of May and October are well worth a look.

Packing List

You can’t go wrong with the basics: make sure to have on hand some sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water and snacks to keep you in good shape.

For a bit more from your time at the shore, pack some snorkeling equipment, a book or two, or even some games. At the more unassuming beaches, it helps to be self-sufficient with an umbrella and a sunbed.

A Note on Manners and Rules

It goes without saying to be considerate of the surroundings and put your litter where it belongs. There are also local bylaws to be had in mind; certain spots have their own policies when it comes to having a dog, making a fire or setting up camp, so do your homework before you head out.
